Real UK Cases

Recordings that changed the outcome

Punjab National Bank v Gosain (EAT, 2014)

[CRISIS] Ms Gosain experienced sex discrimination and sexual harassment at Punjab National Bank International.
[RECORDING] She secretly recorded both her grievance hearing and disciplinary hearing — AND the private panel deliberations after she left the room. The grievance recording (15 min) revealed the managing director had given a direct instruction to dismiss her.
[RESULT] The Employment Appeal Tribunal upheld admissibility of ALL recordings, including the private deliberations. A sexual comment was captured during the adjournment.

Without the recordings? The bank's systematic discrimination would have been covered up entirely.

Phoenix House v Stockman (EAT, 2019)

[CRISIS] Ms Stockman faced unfair dismissal and covertly recorded a meeting with the head of HR.
[RECORDING] The Employment Appeal Tribunal held that covert recordings "will not necessarily amount to a breach of the implied term of trust and confidence."
[RESULT] Won unfair dismissal claim. Compensatory award reduced by only 10% for the covert recording. This case softened the judicial stance on workplace recordings across the UK.

This ruling established that secret recording alone is not automatically gross misconduct.

Medway Council v A — Foster Care Abuse Exposed (Family Court, 2015)

[CRISIS] Parents alleged racist and inappropriate remarks by a local authority foster carer. Their allegations were treated dismissively.
[RECORDING] Parents made covert recordings proving the behaviour.
[RESULT] The Family Court admitted the recordings and relied on them when considering the allegations.

Without the recordings? The children would have remained in an abusive foster placement.

My line manager started shouting at me in a meeting. I had this ready on my home screen. Tapped it, recording started before he even finished his sentence. Evidence secured for my tribunal.

I'm an NHS nurse and my ward manager was bullying staff for months. HR did nothing. I started recording every shift handover. Three weeks later, I had everything I needed for a formal grievance.

The estate agent verbally promised things that weren't in the contract. I recorded the viewing and the follow-up call. When they tried to deny it, I played the recording. Dispute settled within a week.

As a solicitor, I now recommend this app to every employment client who walks through my door. The 0.5-second start is genuinely crucial. By the time you fumble with a standard recorder, the moment has passed.

I work for the council and was being pressured to falsify inspection reports. My manager denied ever saying it. The recording proved otherwise. I'm now protected as a whistleblower.

Teaching is stressful enough without a headteacher who gaslights you in private. I recorded three meetings and submitted them with my Ofsted complaint. The screen disappears immediately — nobody noticed a thing.

Pro is brilliant. Hit stop from the notification shade and the phone screen never even lights up. Perfect for recording a disciplinary when you're sat in front of HR. £4.99 well spent.

My landlord refused to return my deposit and denied what he'd said on the phone. I'd recorded the call. Played it back in the small claims court. Got every penny back plus costs.

I watched Monaco Solicitors' videos on covert recording and immediately installed this app. The fact it stores everything locally with no cloud sync was the deciding factor for me. Security matters.

I'm a carer and the agency kept changing my hours without notice. My union rep told me to start documenting everything. This app made it effortless. One tap and done. Can't recommend it enough.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it legal to record a conversation I'm part of in the UK?

Yes. Under RIPA 2000, recording a conversation you are a party to is lawful for personal use. This is known as one-party consent. The law distinguishes this from covert surveillance by a third party. For specific legal advice on your situation, consult a qualified solicitor.

Can covert recordings be used in an employment tribunal?

Yes, in many cases. Employment Tribunal Rule 27 gives the tribunal discretion to admit any relevant evidence. Landmark cases such as Punjab National Bank v Gosain (2014) and Phoenix House v Stockman (2019) have confirmed the admissibility of covert workplace recordings. However, the tribunal may reduce an award if the recording was made in bad faith.

Where are recordings stored?

All recordings are stored on your device only. There are no server uploads, no cloud synchronisation, and the developer cannot access your files under any circumstances.

Is Pro a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-off payment of £4.99. There are no monthly or annual charges. Pay once, keep it forever.

If you don't install it now, you'll be too late when it matters.
